Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island, which is known as West Island. The West Island, to those not familiar with it, is an extensive region that runs from Lachine until the west. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. She had a dream to dance however a rapid growth rate resulted in her outgrowing the dancers she was with. She admitted in an article published by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. The moment I outgrew my male counterpart, I stopped. There are many dancers who make the move to acting. In the case of the Brugel family, it was their drama instructor who pushed her in that direction. Teacher who recommended she try getting a part in the school's annual production. The audition was successful and she was chosen as Anne of Green Gables. This led to her being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts at York University. Since then, she's appeared performing in over 60 plays, big and small. One of the most memorable was when she landed the role of Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel appeared only on rare moments in the very first season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian participant.
